Topic: Shakespeare and Adaptation: Women Writers Talk Back
Professor: Jo Carney
Meetings: Monday Thursday 11:00am-12:20pm
Course Description:
“Talking back to Shakespeare” is a phrase used in intertextual discourse to refer to adaptations, appropriations, revisions, and critical readings of the Shakespearean canon. Through the lens of adaptation theory, we will examine the dialogue between several of Shakespeare’s plays and works by contemporary authors, including Jane Smiley, Jeanette Winterson, Toni Morrison, and Margaret Atwood.
