LIT 357-01 Early Modern British Literature

Shakespeare is not the only important writer in the early modern period. In this class, we will read Thomas More, Christopher Marlowe, Philip Sidney, Amelia Lanyer, Mary Wroth, and others, perhaps even including Shakespeare. We will explore what makes their works “early modern” and at the same time, remarkably contemporary.
