CWR 370-01 Special Topics in Creative Writing: The Pearl of Great Price

In this Special topic in Fiction course, we will examine what it means to come of age, exploring a variety of the awakenings that might be said to fall under this broad category. We will tag along with a rich and varied cast of protagonists as they journey toward hard-won knowledge about themselves and the story world they occupy. We will read stories that address sexuality and gender identity, the loss of innocence, and the development of moral and ethical consciousness.
In addition, this course will be a safe space to learn the craft and techniques of good writing, to develop your own creative work, and to take part in a supportive community of writers. Students will read and discuss published stories by established authors, produce their own creative work, and read and critique fiction in progress by their fellow students.
