Professor: Neuman

This class will examine contemporary literature by American authors, focusing through the lens of gender. Our course texts represent a wide variety of literary styles and genres, and will include science fiction, historical fiction, essays, and poetry, as well as some critical scholarship from gender theorists. Approaching gender from an intersectional perspective, we’ll look at how gendered ideologies have structured works of literature and reading practices. We will also consider the way literary works construct and/or contest our contemporary cultural narratives about gender.
