LIT 232-01 Spring 2016

LIT 232/World Literature Since 1700. We will explore many selected literary traditions since 1700.  A major theme for the course involves questions regarding individual liberty, and its limits.  A key pivotal literary text will be Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s Faust, especially Part I. We will analyze literary and dramatic texts through an exploration of their archetypal structure.  Also, we will explore at least one Japanese film, Rashomon, by Akira Kurosawa, and we will read the Japanese stories which were its source.
