LIT 499-05 Spring 2016

Albee and Gender & Sexuality

In this section of 499 we will study plays by Edward Albee in relation to issues of gender and sexuality, which is the topic of Volume Two of New Perspectives in Edward Albee Studies, a new book series (collection of essays) that is the official publication of the Edward Albee Society.  Students will be encouraged to submit their research papers to the guest editor of Volume Two.  Plays we will study include The Zoo Story, The American Dream, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Tiny Alice, A Delicate Balance, Seascape, The Lady from Dubuque, Finding the Sun, Three Tall Women, The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?, and a couple of others.  We will also read some feminist theory and queer theory. Assignments include a researched presentation, two short non-research papers, and a research paper.
