The creative writing certificate program has three primary outcomes:
- Students will understand the core techniques of literary writing.
- Students will develop their creativity and original thinking skills.
- Students will develop their written and oral communication skills as well as their team-building skills as they work collaboratively to define and create clear, effective writing.
This certificate is ideal for a student who cannot spare five course units for a minor.
The undergraduate certificate consists of three courses:

- CWR 206: Creative Writing
Additional Workshop Courses (2 course units)
Select two courses:
- CWR 304: Poetry Workshop
- CWR 306: Fiction Workshop
- CWR 370: Special Topics in Creative Writing (may be taken twice with two different topics)
