This certificate has two principal outcomes:
- Students will demonstrate familiarity with texts composed for readers under the age of 18.
- Students will understand that texts written for younger readers have a cultural impact.
The undergraduate certificate consists of three courses:
Required Core Course (1 course unit)

Additional Children’s Literature Course (1 course unit)

- RAL 225: Children’s Literature
- WGS 225: Gender in Children’s Literature
Additional Literature Course (1 course unit)
Select one course:
- LIT 200, Introduction to Poetry
- LIT 210, Speculative Fiction
- LIT 227, Global Animated Film
- LIT 234, Global Fairy Tales
- LIT 270, Topics in Literature (when the topic is appropriate)
- Another LIT or literature course with departmental approval
