Testimonies of the Holocaust
Professor: Ellen Friedman
Course Meetings Wednesday 5-7:50pm
This capstone class looks at varieties of Holocaust testimony across themes, points of view, and mediums. We will explore memoirs, video testimony, and films. Controversies shadow many aspects of Holocaust representations, such as who is a true witness, what is genuine memory, and what is secondary witnessing and does it count? Which witness testimonies are the most authentic? We will also consider questions about memory: individual, community, cultural, global; the past, present, and future of memory.
