CWR 370-01 Special Topics in Creative Writing: Creative Nonfiction Workshop
Professor Jess Row
Monday/Thursday 9:30-10:50am
This class is an introduction to the many forms of writing that fall within the broad label of “creative nonfiction”: we’ll be working on short memoirs, personal essays, reviews, research-driven investigative projects, cultural criticism, and more. We’ll also focus on the question of what makes nonfiction nonfiction: what role do facts and objectivity play in creating a personal essay or memoir, and what happens when writers step over that boundary? Come prepared for weekly assigned reading, short exercises, and longer pieces leading up to an extended final project.
