Student volunteers welcomed attendees to Banned Together TCNJ, an event created to encourage advocacy efforts to fight book banning and censorship and New Jersey.  Attendees watched the documentary, Banned Together, about high school students fighting book bans and censorship in their school districts. Author, Ellen Hopkins, shared her personal journey and writing history, sharing the inspiration for Crank, her YA novel that launched her writing career, based on her daughter’s own struggles with addiction.
Students from Sigma Tau Delta, Kappa Delta Pi, and the Student New Jersey Education Association, shared materials they made with attendees to promote our freedom to read. The Open House was a way for students and staff to learn more about book banning and how to prevent it from happening in NJ.
